| About Me | Much to the dismay of the high school counselor who said that I wouldn't finish school if I married Ken...I have a BA, MA and PhD. We were engaged during my senior year and married after I graduated. He is retiring as the superintendent of the Bainbridge Island School District which is consistently the number one district in the State of Washington. He has two BAs, two MAs and a PhD. Gosh..where is that counselor? After teaching successfully for 28 years, I moved over to the Naval Undersea Museum Foundation to manage a series of multi-million dollar federal grants. I work to improve science/math on the Olympic/Kitsap Peninsulas. My current projects include a high school Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) Challenge Program with over 1,000 students building more than 500 ROVs annually from piles of raw materials to meet a work order. The underwater robots are launched in local swimming pools after 6-weeks to perform on a damaged mooring. Students are mentored through the design-build process by engineers. I middle school ROV program, a grade 6 virtual software where students become sub or ROV crews to learn math and science...and a future program is under development that uses Sea Gliders to teach middle school students math and science. Last year I opened an aquarium in Poulsbo and the associated floating classroom on Liberty Bay will be launched in the fall of 2008. My job is to find the funding, design the programs, develop the relationships for the technical support, and ultimately manage the completed programs.
