Police are asking for the public's help in investigating a puzzling murder-suicide that was discovered Monday in the Lake Road area east of Milwaukie.

Sgt. Nathan Thompson, Clackamas County Sheriff's Office spokesman, said deputies have been stymied by apparent dead ends while investigating the deaths of Whichelle Stockton, 29, and her 28-year-old husband, Tyson Stockton.

"It's a tough case," Thompson said. "They hadn't lived here long, and their neighbors didn't know them. We're still trying to piece it together."

Thompson said parents asked deputies to check on the couple after they hadn't called in an uncharacteristically long time. Around 6:30 p.m. Monday, when deputies visited a triplex in the 7500 block of Southeast Lake Road, they found two bodies.

"Evidence at the scene currently suggests a murder-suicide," Thompson said. He said it appears that Tyson Stockton killed his wife and then killed himself.

However, he declined to elaborate, saying detectives are withholding details during their investigation.

Thompson said the couple moved in about eight months ago. However, they didn't socialize with or even speak to the neighbors beyond waving, "Hello."

"At this point, we're still trying to determine their careers – what they did," Thompson said. "We really don't have a good picture of who they were or what led to this tragedy."

Thompson said investigators said Whichelle Stockton served in the U.S. Navy for four years and recently was discharged. She does not have any family in the area. Thompson said investigators are especially interested in her relationship with her husband and what might have led to the murder-suicide.

Thompson urged anyone with information about the incident or the Stocktons to call the sheriff's confidential tip line at 503-723-4949. Tips also can be left on the sheriff's online Tip Sheet.
