About	Doug died Saturday, July 13, 2024, at Douglas Care Center in Douglas surrounded by his loving family. Doug was born Monday, October 20, 1947, in Redwood Falls, the son of Bernard Michel and Dorothy (Arnett) Schmid. He was the eighth of nine children. Doug attended Saint Joseph Catholic School through eighth grade in Clements. He graduated from Redwood Falls High School in 1965. He was married to Vicki Lynn Miller on October 7, 1967, in Clements. They lived in Clements where he started in the water-waste water field for the Town of Clements. They moved to Redwood Falls and worked for the City of Redwood Falls. In March of 1978 he moved his family to Douglas and began working for the City of Douglas. He also worked on ranches, Converse County, and the Converse County School District. In 1988 he went to work for Chicago and Northwestern Railroad, which later became Union Pacific Railroad. Doug retired after 25 years with the railroad. Doug and Vicki traveled and worked at RV parks in Arizona. Doug enjoyed hunting, gardening, and camping, which was a big part of family time. Doug is survived by his wife, Vicki Schmid, of Douglas; children, Troy (Teresa) of Platteville, Colo., and Dana (Sean) Dugan of Douglas; siblings, Judy Richter of Arizona, Sally Nelson of Washington, Susan (Daryl) Rielander of Wisconsin; grandchildren, Michael Schmid, Sara (Shane) Zaruba, Matt (Allyson) Schmid, Seth (Shelbee) Schmid, and Tim Schmid, all of Colorado, Sam Schmid of California, Tomy Schmid of Douglas, Matt Dugan of North Dakota, and Cacie Dugan of Douglas; great-grandchildren, Sara's children, Parker, Hallie, and Colt Zaruba, Matt's daughter, Harper Schmid, Seth's children, Selene, Silis, and Sonja Schmid, and Matt's children, Analise and Abel Dugan; aunt, Marion Olsen of Wisconsin; brothers-in-law, Les Schultz and Jerry Jensen; sister-in-law, Blondie Schmid; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son; infant grandson; granddaughter-in-law, Brandi Schmid; brothers, Thomas and wife Pat Schmid and John Schmid; sisters, Patricia Schultz, Dorothy and husband Carl Sandberg, and Karen Jensen; brothers-in-law, Bob Nelsen and Dennis Richter; and mother-and father-in-law, Betty and Bill Miller. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the choice of the donor would be appreciated by the family. The Gorman Funeral Homes-Converse Chapel of Douglas was in charge of the arrangements.
