About | Weldon J. Zaske Jr., 75, of Watsonville, Calif., passed away at his home on Saturday, September 17, 2022. ?Weldon James Zaske Jr. was born in Danube on May 18, 1947, to Weldon Sr. and Lillian Zaske. He was the 7th of 9 children. In 1955 the family moved to Redwood Falls where he attended middle and high school graduating in 1965. Shortly after he went into the U.S. Army specializing in explosives and ordinance disposal. ?After completing his time in the service he attended the University of Minnesota and graduated in 1973 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. He then went on an extended trip to Europe enjoying some free time and exploring the sites and cultures of many countries. ?When he returned to the USA, he moved to Santa Cruz, Calif. While working at a convalescent home he went to school full time taking nursing classes with the goal of becoming an RN. He applied at Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz with little experience but was hired and worked in surgery for 30 years. During that time he continued to take classes that aided his progression from surgical nursing to an operating room Registered Nurse. His retirement allowed time to work on his painting, writing a book and his many other hobbies. His best buddy Willie loved having his master home all day. ?He is survived by his wife of 40 years Karen Duclow Zaske, ex-wife Yvonne Ferguson Zaske, siblings Margaret Dodge, Shirley Sweeney (Patrick), Gerald Zaske, Lois Cairns, Debra Munsell (Ray) and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Weldon Sr. and Lillian Zaske, two infant brothers Richard and Larry, sister and brother-in-law Patricia and Robert deBlauw, sister-in-law Faye Larsen Zaske and brothers-in-law James Cairns and Homer B. Dodge. A Celebration of Life will be held in Minnesota for family only. Happy Trails dear brother! |
