About John Dean Gray was born July 28, 1946, in Redwood Falls to Raymond and Bernice (Anderson) Gray. He was a 1964 graduate from Redwood Falls High School and later attended the University of Minnesota. John proudly served his country in the U.S. Army National Guard for over 23 years where he attained the rank of Sergeant 1st Class with the Viking Division. He was united in marriage to Jane Sommers on May 4, 1968, at the Methodist Church in Redwood Falls. This union blessed the couple with a son and a daughter whom together they eventually raised in New Ulm. John worked a long dedicated 42-year career with Minnesota Valley Testing Labs of New Ulm where he started as a sales representative and retired as Vice President in 2010. Besides his work, there were a variety of hobbies he enjoyed in life. As an avid outdoorsman, John enjoyed spending time on area lakes and woods hunting and fishing. As a man who loved to socialize, he enjoyed the many laughs shared at the bowling alley or over a hand of cards with friends and neighbors. He also enjoyed travelling where countless family memories were made over the years on trips. He was a devout and active member of the First United Methodist Church in New Ulm where John served as an usher and also on the church board. John was also a member of the New Ulm American Legion, the Izaak Walton League, and past president of the MWOA. Besides all of his work, and all of his hobbies, what John loved most in life was time he got to spend with his family, especially his grandkids. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

John is survived by his wife, Jane Gray of New Ulm; his daughter, Pamela (Mike) Ewy of Madelia; his son, Greg (fiancé Shelly Joseph) Gray of Chetek, Wisconsin; his four grandchildren, Kaitlin and Nick Ewy, and Jordan and Parker Gray; brother, Gordon (Brenda Hall) Gray of Albany, Oregon; his brother-in-law, John Cicarelli of Gig Harbor, Washington; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernice and Raymond Gray; his mother-in-law, and father-in-law, Eileen and Lyndon Sommers; his sister, Sharon Cicarelli; his sister-in-law, Diane Sommers; his brothers-in-law, Jack Bartley, Myron Sommers; and his nephew, Corey Sommers.
