What is Matthew Leutwyler known for?

Matthew Steven Leutwyler, a distinguished alumnus of Redwood High School in Larkspur, California, was born in San Francisco on July 23, 1969. He has made his mark in the film industry as an accomplished American writer, director, and producer.

Leutwyler embarked on his film career after studying at The San Francisco Art Institute. His first notable project was the dark comedy 'Road Kill', a film he made on a shoestring budget that went on to win the Audience Award for Best Feature Film at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival in 1999.

He continued his creative journey, writing and directing the comedy/horror/musical 'Dead & Breakfast.' This film stood out in the South by Southwest Film Festival in 2004 and garnered a Saturn Award nomination. His versatile talent is evident in his work as he has produced or executive produced several films including 'The Oh in Ohio', 'Lower Learning', 'Against the Current', 'Wonderful World', and 'Every Day'.

In 2011, Deadline Hollywood announced that Leutwyler would be producing 'The Bitch Posse,' directed by Catherine Hardwicke of 'Twilight' fame. This project was undertaken in collaboration with his Ambush Entertainment partner Miranda Bailey and Title IX partners Virginia Madsen and Karly Meola.

Leutwyler's directorial prowess was further demonstrated in the adaptation of the novel 'The River Why' and he wrote and directed the ensemble drama 'Answers to Nothing.' He also executive produced James Gunn's 'Super' and the comedy-drama 'The Girl Most Likely.'

Beyond feature films, Leutwyler also produced the award-winning food documentary 'Spinning Plates' in 2014. Not restricting his skills to just producing and directing, he co-founded the theatrical distributor The Film Arcade in 2012 and worked on the marketing of Jill Soloway's Sundance winner and Independent Spirit Award nominee 'Afternoon Delight.'
