| About Me | Went back to college at age 50, to change careers, and became a Registered Nurse (RN.) Now working as a School Nurse & LOVE IT. After spending the first 25 years working in human resources in several NJ hospitals, I "re-trained and re-invented" myself for the second half of my work life!! 25-years was ENOUGH to do any one thing in terms of a job, and I had had ENOUGH of the 55-60 hr management workweeks. So in 2008, I returned to school on a full-time basis to become a Registered Nurse (RN), & graduated from the "Accelerated Second-Degree BS in Nursing Program" at UMDNJ (University of Medicine & Dentistry of NJ, now part of Rutgers.) First spent a year getting hospital nursing experience on a busy med-surg floor with great co-workers. Being a RN will provide me with a life-long profession, allowing me to work anywhere in the US, and permitting me to work part-time eventually, and enjoy "life" on a full-time basis. My 25-years in hospital human resources work showed me how the "nursing shortage" will ALWAYS be with us "babyboomers" as people easily live into their late 80's/early 90's today. So as a nurse, I'll always have work available to me in my later years, PLUS, I can do nursing anywhere in the US. It's practically recession-proof. All my work life, have been blessed to travel the world, doing "adventure travel" in some really exotic places. It's included riding camels and desert camping in Morocco, walking along the Great Wall in China, trekking for 7-days/nites in Nepal, touring the museums of Cuba, heli-hiking in the Canadian Rockies, white-water rafting and camping for 8-nites along the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon, touring Paris and the French countryside on a house-barge, sailing the smaller islands of Greece, biking in the Tuscany region of Italy, and manning a sailboat in the Carribean.
