About	Hello Kathy: Your invitation addressed to my wife Jerene Johnson, arrived in the mail today. I recognized your name on the return address label, hence this email. Unfortunately, it is my sad duty to tell you that Jerene passed away five years ago from a sudden illness that came over her right after our return from our 20-year anniversary cruise through the ancient ruins in the eastern Mediterranean with six other friends. The first symptoms occurred in early June. In July she was diagnosed at UCLA's neurological center with Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD), a one in a million diagnosis in the United States, a freak of nature, totally random, a "prion" brain disease that has no cure, no treatment, and is inevitably fatal. She died on August 27, five days after her 57th birthday. She was peacefully asleep when she passed, surrounded by family and friends. I'm sorry that you, and perhaps many others who knew Jerene at Rancho Alamitos High School, weren't notified earlier about this. I had no records of your names and address that I came across among Jerene's papers and computer files after she died. I will appreciate it if you would spread this news among those who knew and cared about Jerene, along with my apologies for not getting this information out earlier.
