I can still see Dave snagging a hail-mary pass from Tom Howard, in a diving catch, in the end zone, in the final seconds, to seal the win over Garden Grove High for the fourth consecutive year. He and Tom worked magic in those games.
Dave wasn't afflicted by the macho jock mentality so common among football heros in those days. He was just a nice guy, a real nice guy.
