The planning committee for the Mahar Class of 1969’s 55th Reunion met this week in person and via Zoom and the schedule of events is set.
Things will kick off Friday morning June 21 with the traditional round of golf at Ellinwood Country Club in Athol. Clay Morin and Jake Strunjo are organizing the golf, which is scheduled to get started at ten a.m. and will use our own modified scramble format to ensure golfers of all ability levels will have a great time.
Also Saturday morning, a hike is planned which will be over a local trail chosen to suit all the participants. Betsy Browning is working on details for the morning which will be social and healthy.
Those events will be followed at 4 p.m. by a social with Cocktails hosted by Mike Roche at White Pond in South Athol. Food provided will feature some grilling and a variety of appetizers, healthy fare and desserts with “pot luck” contributions welcome as well. A variety of liquid refreshments will be provided.
That will be followed by the “main event” Saturday June 22, with a social at the newly renovated Orange Gun Club in Orange. Dave Zink is coordinating the social which will get underway at 2 p.m. with food being put out at 3. Responding to the strong preference of so many for a comfortable social event, there will be multiple food stations both indoors and under the outdoor pavilion with lots of seating and a variety of “tasty, healthy and mobile“ foods. Catering will be provided by Black Crow Catering, known for their quality and variety of offerings.
On site, there will be a number of displays for attendees.
A virtual tour of the “new” Mahar, both inside and outside, created by Mahar students using drone technology will be running. There will also be a photo show including pictures from the yearbook along with images contributed by any classmates who can provide some to be included in the presentation. The goal from the start has been to have a comfortable environment in every way possible and everything is fully handicapped-accessible.
All this for a contribution of $15 per person, thanks to the generous support of some class members! Jake Strunjo will be handling reservations for the Gun Club social. Email us at rcmahar69@gmail.com for payment details.
Sunday morning will cap off the weekend with class members gathering to enjoy a brunch at the French King Restaurant in Erving, time to be determined.

We just concluded our second planning meeting, with Mike Roche, Jake Strunjo, Dave Zink, Betsy Browning, Deirdre (Smith) Weisman and Rose (Greuling) Burnett in attendance either in person or via Zoom. Still planning our reunion for the weekend of June 21-22, 2024. We’re making progress, though nothing is as yet carved in stone.

Some of our classmates will be making contributions to make sure that this event is affordable for all. We’d love to see as many of our classmates as possible.

The planning for our 45th Reunion is in full swing. To make this reunion our most successful we would like to include as many of our classmates as possible. In order to do so, the committee has plans on sending several mailings to inform every one on the details of the reunion. Unfortunately our mailing list is outdated. Jean has asked Gary Bianchi and me to put together a current list so we can begin sending the notices. This is where we will need your help in several ways.
