| About Me | Life! "What a long, strange trip it's been." I pretty much grew up in Webster after moving there from Rochester into a house on Shoemaker Road in 1956. I started third grade in the old Webster Central School District when grades K-12 were all in the same 3-story, L-shaped, brick building near the center of town on South Avenue (Spry Middle School). Then, many of us were relocated to a new elementary school on Ebner Drive (Ridgecrest; Webster Town Hall) for grades 5 and 6. From there, we went back to the old high school annex on Sanford Street for junior high. Finally, I spent the first two years of high school at R.L. Thomas, when it was brand new. One of the "charter members" of the Mermen, the school's first swim team -- my only real sport. Unexpectedly, my family moved to Simsbury, Connecticut in August of '64 and I graduated from Henry James Memorial High School in June of '66. I went back "home" for a year at the University of Rochester, but didn't do well as an Electrical Engineering student, so I transferred to Ithaca College in the fall of '67 as a TV-Radio major and finally graduated in May of '72. For the next 15 years I worked in radio, doing mostly news and program management, somehow finding the time to fall in love and begin raising a family along the way. The raising the family part drove me to TV, where the paychecks were somewhat more meaningful. Spent eight years as an Assignment Editor at WFSB, the CBS affiliate in Hartford, a year as Assignment Manager at the competition, the NBC-owned WVIT, and then was promoted to Executive Web Producer for NBC30.com and Northeast regional news producer for MSNBC.com. Unfortunately, I fell victim to a system-wide round of layoffs at NBC in ’03 and have been working part-time, vacation relief or free-lance jobs in radio, TV and print ever since. Until our divorce last September (2015), my wife, Bonnie, and I lived in Avon, CT with our son, Rob (1987), daughter, Shannon (1990), two dogs and a cat, as well as a wide variety of other less-domesticated animals from time to time.
