About | Tom Wells of Reardan, Washington passed away on Monday, April 29, 2024, at the age of 77. He was born on April 23, 1947, in Blackfoot, Idaho. When Tom was 7, the family moved to an undeveloped farm unit near Quincy, Washington. Tom loved working on the farm, the outdoors and country life. After graduating from Quincy High School in 1965, Tom enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard. During his service, he was stationed throughout the country. He talked most about the time he spent in Mobile, Alabama, Kodiak, Alaska and Brookings, Oregon. In late 1970, he began a career at Quincy Columbia Basin Irrigation District where he enjoyed working in various positions, from ditch rider delivering water to farmers, to operating heavy equipment, and finally, after 26 years of service, retiring at the age of 48 as Winchester Watermaster. After retiring, he sold the Goldwing motorcycle he’d enjoyed for years and got his first and only Harley Davidson. He later added a sidecar and rode many miles with his boxer Archie, then with golden doodle Petey. He was proud to be one of the riders featured in the video “Sit, Stay, Ride” and also in a “Harley Rider Stories” video. Tom was preceded in death by his father Verian “Rusty” Wells, mother Betty Jean Goad Wells, step-mom Margaret “Maggie” Wells, and sister, Carol VanDerschelden. Tom is survived by his wife of 53 years Barbara, daughter Monica (Gary), son Seth (Jodi), granddaughter Madison (John), and grandsons Keaton (Aizlynne) and Carson (Mallory). He was the very proud great grandfather to Juniper, Porter and Rhett. He is also survived by five brothers with whom he remained close his entire life: Fred, Dave, Mike, Rich and Dan, as well as step-sisters and step-brothers and many nieces and nephews. Tom could find something in common with anyone he met, and he truly loved meeting new people. Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration in Tom’s honor at the Reardan Community Hall at 120 N. Lake Street in Reardan, Washington on June 8 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. to share stories with his many friends and family. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Tom’s honor to SpokAnimal at 710 N. Napa, Spokane, WA 99202 or spokanimal.org. |
