(and almost escorted the lovely Ms. Nina Peterson), Our no-win season of the '78 Basketball team, Haydee, Naomi, and Nancy's friendship, being shy and eating alone in our auditorium, because we did not have a caferteria or a gym! Dancing at our '78 luncheon, voted as the school's best writer, Graduating at Aviation HS, riding the Q 19 bus to Queensbridge (or running down 30th Ave to catch the RR train to QB), and then taking the No. 7 train to Sunnyside for QVHS, the fashionable clothing, the diversity of ethnic groups, the tough vocational classes and teachers (like Mr. Dempsey in Electrical Installation and practice), not making the basketball team at first and I was very dissappointed, but finally was put on the team because my grades were good whereas some of my fellow team-mates grades were failing...the tasting of the different and delicious foods--especially the hot pizzas, sicilians, kanush (poket-potatatoes, hot dogs (with everything on it), Chinese-takee-outee, Mr Softees, Italian Ice, the Knicks, Going out to dance the Disco, Rap/Break Dance, The Hustle, The Robot, The Bus Stop, The Bump at Justines, The Hotel Diplomat, The Constellation, Bonds International, Studio 54, Club Seseme,House Parties, Fun House Disco, The Loft, Broadway International in Manhattan and the Bronx, and Encore in Jamaica, Queens, Summer Basketball Tournaments at Rucker Park, Rangel Projects, Corona Park, M&M Park, The Polo Grounds, Working for Martin DePores Day Camp, Swiming at Astoria Park, Playing sports at The Boys Club on 21st Street, and basketball at PS 171, Shopping at Alexanders, Macy's, Bloomingdales, A&S, on Steinway St., going to the movies, attending and singing in the church choir at the First Reformed Church of Astoria, playing stick...(read more) |
