Fire kills mother, two children in Christiansburg
Updated 7:20 p.m.: Morning blaze consumed the interior of the one-story ranch house.
A 24-year-old Christiansburg woman and her two children died when their house burned Tuesday morning.
Michele Huffman was killed in a blaze that began around 8 a.m. and filled the interior of her one-story house at 3410 Roanoke St. with smoke, the medical examiner and town firefighters said.
Two of Huffman's daughters were brought out of the burning house but died soon afterward. Their father, Jason Huffman, also of Christiansburg, identified the girls as Caitlyn Michele Huffman, age 7 weeks, and Courtney Renee Huffman, age 18 months.
A 5-year-old daughter, Carleigh Gale Martin, who the medical examiner had earlier identified as a victim, was staying with her grandparents in Blacksburg and is fine, Jason Huffman said.
Authorities are calling the fire an accident.
