Denise Minto

Denise Minto

Class of 1991

An immigrant from Jamaica, Denise graduated from Prospect Heights and with the help of Ms. Turnbull, Ms. Goldburg, Mr. Sterngass and so much more, Denise was able to leave New York and attend the University of Rochester with a half scholarship. Due to financial hardship, she transferred to Buffalo State College where she achieved her Bachelors with a minor in Education, did her student teaching through Florida International University and had an opportunity to live in Europe and model.

She returned to New York, and worked as a high school teacher, then got her first opportunity as Executive Editor of a mainstream publishing company, and moved up to Associate Publisher of another. In the process she started her then non-competitive business Universal Write Publications and published six well known novels under a pen name Denise Campbell. A true example of "it takes a village to raise a child" Prospect Heights High School, its faculty and staff, were the driving force behind her success. Denise believes that had her teachers not cared about some of her past, coming out of abuse, surviving and overcoming many obstacles would not have been possible. They saw her potential, nurtured it and helped her become the success she is today.

Denise has kept in touch with many of her teachers including Ms. Goldburge, Mr. Campbell, Mr. Sterngass, Mr. Rozza and many others who have supported Denise's work and attended several of her booksignings at Barns and Nobles and other notable book stores.

Denise is now a successful publisher working hard to instill the values of education and literacy through her company Universal Write Publications. She works with schools, none profits, grant programs and companies to help build skills that children will need not only to be successful in academic arenas, but intangibles like, self esteem, confidence and pride, and offer herself as mentor that nothing is impossible.
