About Me	I moved to bush Alaska (no roads, no trees) in 1975 where I met my husband, Jim. Our son, Eric was born in the Indian hospital in 1981. My husband is a documentary photographer well known in the state. For most of the twelve years I lived in Bethel, I did itinerant teaching and supervision for Head Start and the University in Yup'ik Eskimo villages, traveling by snow machine, boat and small plane. We moved to Fairbanks in 1987 where I have taught at the University, worked for the Native Corporation doing child development work in Athabascan Indian villages and, more recently, I have worked as a consultant to Alaska Native early childhood programs throughout the state. My husband and I have a book published by University of Washington Press on Yup'ik subsistence in 1973 called Always Getting Ready and I am currently working on a book/memoir on Yup'ik child development theory. Our son, Eric, currently lives in Honolulu having graduated from Oberlin Music Conservatory in 2005. He and his wife lived here but moved to Hawaii for her to do a doctorate in linguistics.
