A state park ranger killed after a tree crashed through the roof of his car has been identified as 28-year-old Nathan Howell.
The accident happened Saturday afternoon at Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park, south of Gainesville. The Ohio native had been a ranger for eight months and lived on the park premises with his wife, Angela.
Authorities the Howell's car was stopped because the road he was traveling on was blocked by a downed tree. As he sat in his car, a second tree fell atop it, causing the roof to collapse and killing him instantly.
Officials say this is the first fatal accident at the state park.
