Alumni Stories
Patricia King
Class of 1972
Former Council Member of Prince George's County (1999-2004). (I was re-elected via write-in vote, but declined offer due to out-of-county restrictions.) Spearheaded & served as Director, Computer Technology/Youth Program designed to target at-risk youth. I also served on the Maryland Municipal League's Legislative Committee, Women in Government Services (WINGS) and various committees and organizations throughout Prince George's County.
In addition, I served as child advocate and Maryland Representative for the Every Child Matters Education Fund (ECMEF) Program. In this capacity, I organized and participated in the first Step Up for Kids Day march on the Nation’s Capital in September 2008. [The mission of ECM is to assist those children living in poverty who lack affordable housing, health insurance, education, food and in areas that do not foster positive growth and/or opportunities. ]
Currently serve as a Board Member of the Metro Advisory Council and Vice President, The Catholic University of America’s Metropolitan School of Professional Studies Organization.
None of these achievements would have been possible had it not been for those that took an interest and pointed out some of my talents while attending Potomac Senior High School. Although the list of dedicated teachers, administrators, and staff is too long to mention, I would like to take this opportunity to say, “Thank you for everything! Words could never express what a positive impression was made as a result of the kind words, consideration, and thoughtfulness at a time when things were not always easy because of the many barriers that divided the lines. However, the differences made and changes that occurred during and after my attendance at Potomac Senior High will never be forgotten. Again, thank you; especially, Ms. Johnson, Mr. Baker, and Mr. Flood, just to name a few.â€
