Claudia (Sweatt) Foss
Class of 1984
Air Force, 20 Years
I’m an Air Force veteran married to a veteran and daughter of a veteran.
I'm retired Lieutenant Colonel, a combat Veteran and public affairs officer who served 20 years in the United States Air Force. I served six months in Iraq with the Coalition Provisional Authority in Baghdad as part of the strategic communication campaign team for Ambassador Bremer. Traveling throughout Iraq, I and other team members met with key Iraqi leaders informing them of the plans to introduce democracy to that country. I served one year in Afghanistan as the spokesperson and chief of public affairs for the commander of the 40 NATO and International Security Force nations, U.S. Army General Dan McNeill and as the military assistant to the spokesperson, Portuguese Army Brigadier General Carlos Branco. I earned my commission and a bachelor’s degree in mass communication and a minor in German from the University of New Hampshire in 1988. My career began as a visual information officer with the Air Force Television Center at the Pentagon in Washington, DC. Following a special assignment as chief of visual information for the Department of Defense Armed Forces Inaugural Committee in 1993, I cross trained into public affairs. I served as chief of public affairs for four flying wings. My operational and staff assignments include one Major Command, Department of Defense and Headquarters U.S. Air Force, along with two deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan.
I retired from active duty in 2009. My husband Colonel Steve Foss retired from the Air Force after 23 years in 2014. We live in Hebron, Ohio.
