John Norris attended Portage High School in Portage, IN.

John served in the US Army and was stationed in Vietnam for one year. After his service he returned to Portage and worked at Bethlehem Steel. He married Ingrid Schmelzer in 1980. He died after a long battle with Hodgkins disease, an agent orange cancer.
