| About Me | A former finance executive, I have been taking Bay Area writing classes off and on for more than a decade. My short stories and poems have won contests and been published in various literary magazines, including Forum and Synchronized Chaos. My current project is a novel based on my years in a Texas orphanage in the 1950s and '60s. I am drawn to the orphan archetype and my work explores the struggles of abandoned children and honors the heroes who make their isolated journey into adulthood more bearable. I was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder stemming from the extreme treatment at the Home, but thanks to a blend of Eastern and Western philosophies and therapy, the rage evolved into profound feelings of compassion. I raised two wonderful daughters and had a long career in corporate finance, I majored in biology before switching to business. I see the world through the eyes of a naturalist and have a passion for social justice. I am blunt because I care about my country and have to cut through the fat of social pleasantry. My intent is often to encourage people think in ways they're not accustomed to thinking. It can create discomfort but it also can make people think for themselves when they're not accustomed to doing so. It's a fine line that I tread but I know things first-hand that need to be shared. Some will be offended where others will be grateful. I share what truth I know, and it's up to people to deal with it in their own way. Concealing truth is almost the same as lying.
