About Me	After Point Loma, I commuted to UCSD for four years and got a BA in math, all the while putting most of my energy into racing bicycles. First things first! I went on to get a master's and even worked on a PhD for a couple years, but then I stopped - temporarily, I thought - to (a) get married and (b) try to make some money. As it turned out, I never did go back to school, but I spent 24 years doing software development and project management, including 6 years at Qualcomm. In 2003 my wife and son and I moved up the coast to Salinas, where I got a job teaching math at a community college. I've been there ever since and have loved every minute of it. I'm planning, with a mixture of excitement and reluctance, to retire in June 2021. I still like riding bikes fast, or at least trying to, but haven't raced since 2002. I run too, and used to do an occasional marathon. In the last few years I've also gotten into powerlifting, which has been a nice counterpoint to all that endurance work.
