About Me Christmas 2012 Dear family and friends, We’re back! We apologize for not sending out Christmas greetings since 2009; life has been crazy and it seemed to escalate the closer we got to the holidays. I actually had one written and printed last year but never found the time to do envelopes and get them mailed. I will do my best to hit the highlights for the last few years (2010 – 2012). Thankfully a lot of you are on facebook and have kept in touch and are aware of life’s changes. The news that made the biggest impact on our lives is that we moved to Virginia during the summer of 2011. John made 10 business trips to Singapore (182 days) in 2010. Upon his return and the completion of his project he was told his job was moving there permanently. Not being financially feasible, we opted for a transfer to Micron Technology – Virginia (MTV) and a new adventure. Since taking this new position, John has been given a promotion and now has added management duties. He likes what he is doing and is adjusting to the duties “outside” his comfort zone. We are enjoying the area and look forward to exploring the East coast. I haven’t considered looking for a job outside the house yet…having to share cars, getting settled in the house and all that is entailed with relocation and the fact that I wouldn’t have the flexibility to fly back to the West coast to see family and friends has put it low on the “To Do“ list. One benefit from all of John’s travels is frequent flyer miles! I was able to join him on his June 2010 trip to Singapore. During the first week in Singapore I spent exploring the area with another Micron wife. Then John and I took an 8 day trip to Australia. We flew into Perth and stayed with some friends, Jeff and Lisa Cooley and their children for a couple of days. It was wonderful seeing them after about 20 years and they were fantastic tour guides! From there we flew to Sydney where we celebrated our 25th anniversary! We flew back to Singapore for another week in which I did a little R & R and revisited some of the places I had been and didn’t have enough time to see all there was to see. Nichole is as busy as ever! She graduated high school a semester early (January 2011) and attended the spring and summer semesters at College of Western Idaho. Then she headed up to Coeur d’Alene and attended North Idaho College for the 2011-2012 school year. She spent some time in Boise before moving to Virginia the end of June 2012. This year she is attending Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) so she can transfer to George Mason University next year. She is pursuing a double major of Chemistry and Criminal Justice and hope to continue with her Masters in Forensic Science. She is also working for the new Kohl’s store in Haymarket and has proven to be a valuable employee. She has made quite a few friends and is really enjoying living in Virginia. One of her dear friends, Amanda Trick, is coming to live with us for at least a semester and will be attending NOVA as well. We are all excited for her arrival. Monique and Steve are doing wonderfully well! Monique graduated (Suma Cum Laude) from NNU in May 2010. She has been teaching at Rolling Hills Charter School, her first year in 3rd grade and the following two years in Kindergarten. Steve is currently working fulltime for WINCO Foods at their distribution center and is a part-time Middle School Youth Assistant at Ten Mile Christian Church. They have joined the ranks of homeownership, buying their first home in February 2011. They painted the interior of the house before they were completely moved in. Steve has been busy doing home improvements; tiled their bathroom/closet floor, and installed hardwood flooring and new baseboards in the kitchen, dining, living room/office and hall. Their family is expanding…Reegan Nichole was born April 30, 2011 and they are expecting a boy the end of March next year. John and I love being grandparents; just wish it wasn’t long distance. We are thankful for all the prayers shared for our extended family. John’s dad and his battle with cancer and the additional health concerns he is dealing with. Monica’s mom and her recovery from hip replacement surgery and health concerns related to approaching 90 years old! Also for John’s mom that she stays healthy and positive as she is the primary caregiver for dad! John and I have made a few trips back and forth. We spent some time in Bend November 2011 during the time when dad started his battle with brain cancer. I ended up staying most of December and some of January to help mom out and to be there for moral support. I did get to spend a couple weeks in Grants Pass with my mom during Christmas. It was a wonderful visit but as usual, it went too quickly! I returned to Boise for Reegan’s 1st birthday celebration in April and helped move Nichole down from college. John went West during the week of Father’s Day…spending some time in Boise and taking the girls with him to Bend to spend time with his parents. Then he and Nichole packed all her college belongings in the car and made a fast trip from Boise to home (3 days). I made my most recent trip back to Boise the end of July/beginning of August to work on our house as we are hoping to sell it before the end of the year…if not we will probably rent it out again. Not excited about this prospect as it took a LOT of energy to get it ready the first time…not looking forward to doing it again. John and I traveled to Bend in early November (2012) to spend time with his parents. John will be heading back in January for a couple of weeks. I hope to return to Boise for the birth of our 2nd grandchild and then go to Oregon to see my mom and sisters. One of the biggest challenges we have faced since moving to Virginia is finding a church where we feel at home. After much searching, we found ourselves always returning to one church in particular. We loved the pastor, his passion for the Word and his sermons were excellent! The worship time was wonderful; a lot like what we had at Ten Mile Christian. However there was some kind of turmoil during the August when I was in Boise and the pastor and a lot of the congregation has left. We feel a lot of tension in the air so we may be back to searching once again! Nichole has connected with the Young Life group at George Mason University and a college group at one of the other local churches. This holiday season we will be staying home; spending some time Christmas day with friends, the Ryckman family. We are so thankful for all we have been blessed with! For family and friends and the continuing encouragement and love they have given us during difficult times. For the opportunity to attend a church of our choosing where we can gain a better understanding of God’s word and strengthen our bond with Him. For the wonderful adventures we have experienced and the anticipation of more in the future. And even technology (not sure if John would agree) so we can stay connected with family and friends even though we are separated by thousands of miles! So it is during this time of year when celebrating the birth of our Savior with family and friends that we want you all to know that you are in our thoughts and praying that you will feel His love throughout the coming year. We are sending you wishes for a Merry Christmas and a Bl...(read more)
