About	Peter Norman Palmer, 89, of Whitehall, passed away Tuesday, November 7, 2017, at Mercy Health Partners Mercy Campus in Muskegon. He was born November 7, 1928, in Indianapolis, Indiana, the son of Carlton Evald and Martha Irene (Martinson) Palmer. Peter attended the University of Michigan where he played football and was catcher on the baseball team, and earned a Master’s Degree in Education. He was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies, but his baseball career was cut short by the Korean War. Following his time in the Army, Peter went on to teach physical education and coach football and head coach of baseball at Ann Arbor Pioneer High School. Peter also owned and operated Palmer’s Blueberries, in Whitehall, since 1963. Peter attended Lebanon Lutheran Church in Whitehall. He served as Chairman of the Fruitland Township Parks & Recreation Committee and was a member of the White Lake Historical Society. Peter’s greatest loves in life were his family, hunting, U of M sports, and riding his tractor. Peter is survived by: his children, Peter (Shelley) E. Palmer of Grand Haven, Michael (Kathy) Palmer of Whitehall, Debra (Craig) Stephens of Saline, and Linda (Chris) Soraruf of Whitehall; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; his sister, Doris Nairne of Pomona, California; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and loyal blueberry farm patrons; also his former wife, Jennie Lance. In 1954, Peter married Marolyn Shea who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by: his parents; and his brothers, David Palmer and Carlton Palmer. Memorial services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 18, 2017, at Lebanon Lutheran Church, in Whitehall, with the Reverend Douglas Ogden officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until time of services at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the University of Michigan Cancer Center.
