About Lake Almanor Peninsula resident Raymond H. Rose passed from this life suddenly, Wednesday afternoon, August 26th, 2009 while playing the game that he so passionately enjoyed, golf. Ray was playing a celebratory round of a golf tournament that he had just won. His loving wife and a host of dear friends were at his side. Ray was born September 9th, 1933 in Maryville, Missouri to the late Charles and Helen (Henkins) Rose. As a young child he and his family moved to Hoisington, Kansas where as a member of Hosington High's "Class of 1951" he lettered in football, basketball and track, holding the record in the 100 yard dash for many years. Following his graduation he went on to attend the University of Arizona graduating in 1956 with a BS Degree in Education. Ray was a proud member and officer in the Phi Gamma Delta faternity. He then joined the armed forces where as a pilot with the U.S. Air Force he helped the country enter the jet age. Following his honorable discharge Ray returned to the University of Arizona where he obtained his Masters Degree in 1960. It is here while attending college, thru friends, he met a beautiful young stewardess named Virginia "Ginny" Toomy an encounter that led to the couples marriage in San Jose, California on October 7th, 1961. To this loving union two sons and two daughters were born. Ray began and ended a fulfilling 33 year career as an educator and coach at Pioneer High School in San Jose, CA. Here throughout the years he coached football, basketball, tennis and golf and took great pride in sharing his knowledge and life skills in the classroom as well as on the field, courts and links. Following his retirement he and Ginny moved to the Lake Almanor Peninsula where together they have enjoyed the past 14 years. together. An avid outdoorsman, as a member and part owner of the East Gustine Duck Club he shared many special moments in the past 35 years hunting with his sons. Ray was an active member of Ducks Unlimited and the California Waterfowl Association. As a member of the Lake Almanor Country Club's Board of Directors he served as chairman of the Golf Committee as well as being a member of the Fireman's Association. He was also a member of the California Retired Teachers Association as well as the Northern California Golf Association and was a proud alumni of the University of Arizona. In passing Ray leaves his loving wife of almost 48 years; Virginia "Ginny" Rose of the Lake Almanor Peninsula, sons; Matthew and his wife Tammy of Roseville, CA, Christopher of Winters, CA, daughters; Julie Rose of Santa Clara, CA, Lisa Rose of Santa Cruz, CA, brother, Joe and sister in law Mary Kay Rose of Leawood, Kansas, precious granddaughters; Rachael and Rebecca Rose along with nieces; Stacey, Becky and Renee. Along with his parents Ray joins his brother; Donald and sister; Sue in their eternal home. Private family graveside services were held in the Chester District Cemetery Sunday morning, August 30th, 2009. A celebration of Ray's life will take place Sunday September 13th, 2009 from 1:00-3:00 pm. at the Lake Almanor Peninsula Recreation Area 1.
