About | MAY 12, 1947 -- JUN 10, 2009 Kirk was born in San Jose, California to Robert C. Lindsey and the former Carol June Beverly. At the time of his passing at age 62, he was surrounded by his loving family and many friends at Doctors Medical Hospital in Modesto, California. Kirk earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration at Abilene Christian University and participated in the Pepperdine University MBA Program. He was commissioned into the U.S. Army in 1969 after completing ROTC at Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, Texas. A fourth generation Californian, he returned to California in 1971 after serving in Virginia, North Carolina, and Korea. Kirk was President of Brite Transport System, Inc. of Riverbank, California. He started the company in 1972 and has been involved in the transportation of agricultural products and products of preservation since that time. Since 1976, Kirk has also been the Managing General Partner of B&P Bulk, another agricultural trucking company. Between the two companies, offices are operated in Riverbank, El Centro, Hanford and Woodland, California. At the time of his passing, Kirk served on the California Transportation Commission which is responsible for the programming and allocating of funds for the construction of highway, passenger rail and transit improvements throughout California. He was appointed to this position by two governors, Gray Davis (Democrat), on November 10, 2000 and Arnold Schwarzenegger (Republican), on April 7, 2004 and again on February 14, 2008. These appointments required senate confirmation. Kirk was the current Chairman of the Stanislaus County Workforce Investment board, a past Chairman of the Stanislaus County Private Industry Council, President of the Modesto Chamber of Commerce and a past President of the California Trucking Association. He is the last founding member of the Riverbank Rotary and has served on a number of boards dealing both with business and educational issues. He was a commissioner for the California High Speed Rail Authority and a Vice-President of Cal Casualty Insurance Board. Kirk was the founder and President of the Beyer High School Educational Foundation, he served on the school's accreditation committee, and he recently completed his 20th year as the school's boys and girls aquatics coach, he was past President of the Beyer Booster Club, and he was a committee member for the Beyer crab feed for 18 years. Kirk was also on the board of the Stanislaus Partners in Education, a vehicle to link business and education through partnerships, internships and mentoring. In addition, he was on the Board of directors for Parkridge Christian Estates. Traveling was Kirk's passion, having visited over 75 countries. Kirk was preceded in death by his father, Robert C. Lindsey. He is survived by his mother, Carol June Lindsey of San Jose, his wife, Cyndi of Modesto, his sister, Anne Lindsey Lucier of Sacramento, and his daughters: Shannon Suesens and her husband John of Sacramento, Whitney Lindsey and Tiffany Lindsey of Modesto and Ashleigh Lindsey of Portland, Oregon. He is also survived by nieces: Christiana Lucier and Courtney Lucier of Sacramento, Stacy Gorton of Seattle, Washington, a grand nephew Cameron Lucier of Sacramento and his grandson Brendan Alexander Suesens, also of Sacramento. Private services for the family will be at Lakewood Memorial Park, followed by a Celebration of Life service at Davis Park Church of Christ (where he has been a beloved member since 1972), 901 W. Rumble Road in Modesto at 2:00p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the R.
