About Me	Janet Harting and John Rackham, 65, of Dexter were each were riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle northbound on Mount Hope Road when they were hit by a southbound GMC Envoy that crossed the center line. The Envoy was driven by 37-year-old Brooklyn resident Rodney Arnett, according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office. According to WKHM, Arnett told investigators he had been distracted while driving because he was swatting at a bee. He said he was trying to give himself a shot for his allergies to bee stings. Arnett has received several driving citations, according to Jackson County court records. He has been cited for speeding, improper lane use, improper plates, parking in a handicap area and for not wearing a seat belt. In the crash, which occurred about 5:40 p.m. on Mount Hope Road south of Huckleberry Lane, Harting was hit first. Harting was taken by ambulance to the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor. Jackson County Sheriff’s Deputy Ben Roe said she died at the hospital as a result of her injuries. Rackham was transported to Allegiance Health with minor injuries.
