About	DR. SAM SPENCER SMITH, 77, of Springfield passed away Saturday, December 03, 2011 at Heartland of Springfield. He was born December 20, 1933 in Idaho, Ohio, the son of Leroy and Mary Leo (Way) Smith. Sam was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served our country proudly. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School for many years. Sam was a lifelong educator and was very proud of working for the Veterans Administrations. He was an avid Cincinnati Reds and Ohio State Buckeyes fan. Sam will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Survivors include his beloved wife of 48 years, Sandra S. (Strohmeyer) Smith; one daughter, Stephanie Krueger (Rex Miller) of Springfield; three sons, David (Anne) Dennis of Chillicothe, Ohio, Scott (Tracy) Smith of West Harrison, Indiana and Dale (Lynn) Dennis of Cincinnati, Ohio; one sister, Sharon Smith of Urbana, Ohio; ten grandchildren, Ashlea, Adam, Casey, Christiana, Spencer, Parker, Nathaniel, Taylor, Madison and Sydney; numerous nieces and nephews and lifelong friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Dwight Dennis; one sister, Evelyn Johnson and one brother, Donald Smith. The family would like to express a very special thank you to Heartland of Springfield and Heartland Hospice. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2011 from 2-3 p.m. in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME, Springfield. A celebration of Sam's life will begin at 3 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
