Doug is my step brother. My name is Bryant Shinaver. Doug introduced me to football, and he showed me how much fun you can have playing with or without success. I remember when Doug broke the school record for most solo tackles in a season. I was so excited for him, but I was also driven by that to make a success story of my own. In high school I switched from lineman to Inside linebacker, Doug's dominate position. I didn't even come close to accomplishing what he did on the field, but it hit me deep when he said that he was proud of me and that I did well. After high school Doug found out that he had a brain tumor and wouldn't be able to play football any more. That devastated him and the family. If it wasn't for that I truly think Doug could've played college football and even the pros. The biggest thing Doug taught me wasn't how to lay someone out on the field. He taught me to never give up on my dreams because you never know when that dream can be taken away from you, and because of him, I am tried out for Appalachian State's football team and was asked to come back for their winter workouts. Therefore if it wasn't for my step brother Doug, I wouldn't be as good of a person and athlete that I am today.
