Serving with the 2nd MAR DIV, We spent six months over in the first Persian Gulf war, Desert Shield / Desert Storm. After returning, attended Amphibious Recon School to change units and deployed for six months. Served as a Fire Team Leader with my unit and received a Honorable Discharge.

Got drafted, of course. Did boot camp @ Ft Cambell, KY. I was pregnant @ the time. He got to come home to be there when our son was born due to my doctor calling the Red Cross. He was home a month. Then he was sent to Ft Lewis, WA. They promised they would cancel his orders for Vietnam as they need him there. All these years I thought he was a truck mechanic and here he was a parts clerk. He saw no action unless you call getting stabbed in the back and arm. He is doing well these days. We have two sons. Mike is 40 and Eric is 38 next month. We have a wonderful Grandson who is 3.5 and he'll have a sibling in September. Belinda McVay McDonald Class of 1967 as well.

I was attached to the USS Stout (DDG-55) my entire enlistment. I completed 2-- 6 month deployments to the Middle East and was on station in the Easter Mediterranean Sea during the terrorist attacks of September 11. I was an Engineman Second Class and work center supervisor for my division.

Commissioned into the Virginia Army National Guard in 2002 as an Intelligence Officer and served thirteen years before transferring into the Army Reserves. I am currently a student in War College and have served at every level from the company through theater and have commanded Soldiers at the Company and Battalion level.
