George Herrfurth

Class of 1978

George Herrfurth served in the the U.S. Departments of Commerce (1984-89), State (1989-2001) and Health and Human Services (2001-present) in his Federal career. He was awarded the State Department's Meritorious Honor Award for his work as a part of a group effort to successfully negotiate the Kyoto Protocol on Climate Change in 1997. President Bush declined to submit the Protocol for advice and consent to the Senate. Mr. Herrfurth was also involved in negotiations on U.S. participation on the Montreal Protocol on Stratospheric Ozone protection and the Global Environment Facility. He was awarded a B.A. from the State University of New York at Albany in 1982 and an M.A. from The American University in Washington, D.C., in 1984.
