Alumni Stories
Angela Sorrels Yurachek
Class of 1979
Angela and her husband, Steve, have recently started fostering-to-adopt a little boy who was a subject of neglect. They took Michael into their home when he was 9 1/2 months old. He is now almost 13 months old. In the time Michael has spent with them he has really blossomed. When he was removed from the home at 7 months, he had never been out of the car seat/carrier except when held or when/if he was put to bed and had never had anything to eat other than a bottle. MIchael had no hair in the back of his head and has had two haircuts since being with Steve and Angela., They also feel that since Michael loves to drink water that he probably went without formula from time to time. In addition, Michael could not roll over nor crawl and showed no interested in doing so at first. He is now "all over the place"! He is starting to talk and he communicates quite well with "mama" and "dadda". Steve and Angela hope that by Christmas 2008, MIchael will carry their last name and be a permanent part of their family. Steve and Angela were just name "Foster Parent Rookies of the Year" by the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Department of Social Services.
