Parkview Theatre presents Children's Plays
The Parkview High School Performing Arts Department is preparing for the first time in its theatrical history to present a delightful duo of children’s plays performed in repertory. “The Insulting Princess” will open the two weekend run on Thursday January 31st, alternating each consecutive evening with “The Near-sighted Knight & Far-sighted Dragon” at Parkview High School.
Typical of plays written for children, each show teaches a “life” lesson through an imaginative & delightful story. In “The Insulting Princess”, a young princess learns a valuable lesson of acceptable behavior & communication. “The Near-sighted Knight & Far-sighted Dragon” is a musical where two rivals must learn how to “get-along” and work together in order to save the kingdom.
Creating the set & costumes, and performing for young children offered Mr. Krudwig, the teacher/director, a unique opportunity to teach the different techniques necessary to produce successful, entertaining children’s productions.
“The Insulting Princess” will be presented Jan. 31st, Feb. 2nd, 8th, & 10th. “The Near-sighted Knight & Far-sighted Dragon” will run Feb. 1st, 3rd, 7th, & 9th. Shows on Thursday through Saturday are at 7pm. Sunday shows are at 2pm. All shows are in Parkview High School’s Theatre, 516 W. Meadowmere, Springfield, and will run approximately one hour. All tickets are $2.50. Tickets may be purchased by calling (417) 523-9300 or Online at www.phstheatre.org.

PHS spring musical "Footloose"
“Footloose” is a 1998 musical based on the 1984 film of the same name. Life in small-town Bomont is peaceful until city boy, Ren, arrives. Breaking every taboo, Ren brings dance back to the heart of a town held back by the memory of a tragedy. Thought to be a dance musical, it is more of a character study peppered with terrific songs including: “Footloose”, “Let’s Hear It for the Boy”, “Holding Out for a Hero”, “Somebody’s Eyes”, & “Almost Paradise” and a couple of great dance numbers.
This production will showcase students in “behind the scenes” responsibilities usually filled by faculty members; for example, sophomore Chandler Cooper is serving as Vocal Director, senior Lauren Johnson and Brooklyn Engel, sophomore, are assisting with choreography in various dance numbers, and junior Robbie Ashurst is Set Designer with senior Mitch Matysiak serving as Master Carpenter for the last time.
“Footloose” will be presented April 12th – 14th, 2012, at 7:00 PM and April 15th, 2012, at 2:00 PM at Parkview High School. Tickets are $8.00 for Adults, $6.00 for Students/Seniors, and $4.00 for Children (12 and under) and Parkview Students. Tickets may be purchased by calling (417) 523-9300 or Online at

"Moon over Buffalo" comic play at Parkview
“Moon over Buffalo” is a 1995 comic play set in Buffalo, NY in 1953. As seen backstage in a traveling troupe of aspiring actors, this play is really three plays intertwined with each other. It is a farce full of craziness that includes five doors opening and closing, people hiding in closets, half-dressed actors, near misses in running into people who are hiding, mistaken identities and mass confusion.
Attending this production will be a chance for the audience to experience our actors’ skills at “close range” while seated on stage. Parkview’s depth of talent allow for the eccentric characterizations necessary for the successful portrayals in this classic comedy. Set Design by Junior Robbie Ashurst will enhance the show (constructed entirely of supplies from previous shows), while our Costume, Prop & Hair crews explore the details of setting the play in 1953.
“Moon over Buffalo” will be presented February 2nd – 4th, 2012, at 7:00 PM and February 5th, 2012, at 2:00 PM at Parkview High School. Tickets are $8.00 for Adults, $6.00 for Students/Seniors, and $4.00 for Children (12 and under). Tickets may be purchased by calling

Parkview Spring Shows are a double feature
Parkview High School Performing Arts Department is completing its 2010-2011 season with their first repertory theatre experience. Blithe Spirit will begin April 7th in repertory with Something’s Afoot at Parkview High School. Parkview Theatre is always striving to expose our students to varying aspects of theatre. So, in our repertory experience, two separate productions, one a play, the other, a musical, will be performed on our stage utilizing the SAME set. They will be presented on alternating dates.
Blithe Spirit is a comic play written by Noel Coward about a novelist who accidentally summons his dead wife in a séance and can’t send her back. Something's Afoot is a farcical murder mystery musical that follows a group of people who are invited to the lake estate of Lord Dudley Rancour. But, when the Lord is found dead, they must race against the clock to find out whodunit. This musical is loosely based on the Agatha Christe’s mysteries.
Attending these productions will give audiences the chance to double their enjoyment and witness how differing performances & scripts & lighting can alter their view of the same set. As usual, for our plays, the audience will be seated on stage in intimate proximity with the performers, thus offering our patrons a more personal theatrical experience. Therefore, seating is limited.
Blithe Spirit will be presented April 7, 9, & 15, 2011, at 7:00 PM and April 17, 2011, at 2:00 PM and Something’s Afoot will be presented April 8, 14 & 16, 2011, at 7:00 PM and April 10, 2011, at 2:00 PM at Parkview High School Theatre. Tickets are $8.00 for Adults, $6.00 for Students/Seniors, and $4.00 for Children 12 and under. Tickets may be purchased by calling 417- 523-9300 or Online at

Hello, from the New Parkview Principal
It is my honor to introduce myself as the new Principal at Parkview High School. My name is Eric Ramsey and it is my pleasure to share with you my excitement and enthusiasm about the opportunity to serve as Principal at Parkview. Although I havent been here long, I have already developed an understanding of the loyalty and pride that both students and staff possess. I have also come to realize that the loyalty and pride does not stop at graduation. The Alumni here is unparalleled with any other alumni group that I have seen. I challenge all of you to not let the strength in your alumni group waiver, but instead look to connect with more classmates and get more involved with Parkview. I look forward to the upcoming year and I will do my very best to uphold the legacies and traditions of Parkview High School.
It is great to be a Viking!

PHS Spring Musical "Forum"
Parkview Theatre's “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum†runs April 8th - 11th, 2010,Thursday-Saturday: 7:00 PM and Sunday at 2:00 PM. Besides being a Tony Award winning musical (with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and a book by Burt Shevelove and Larry Gelbart), it is a comic delight for actors & audience alike.
Inspired by ancient Roman farces, it tells the bawdy story of a slave named Pseudolus and his attempts to win his freedom by helping his young master woo the girl next door. The plot displays many classic elements of farce, including puns, the slamming of doors, cases of mistaken identity (frequently involving characters disguising themselves as one another), and satirical comments on social class. The title derives from the line that vaudeville comedians often used to begin a story: "A funny thing happened on the way to the theater".
Parkview’s version promises to be highly entertaining. Interesting costume and set designs will be showcased as “Forum†takes the stage. You’ll visit ancient Rome with a few surprising twists. This show will have you pulling for the underdog & laughing hysterically at their antics.
Tickets are $8 for Adults, $6 for Students/Seniors, and $4 for Children (12 and under) Tickets may be purchased by calling (417) 523-9300 or Online at
