| About Me | "After high school (Runnymede and then Parkdale), Walt attended Ryerson, graduating with a Journalism Degree in 1982. Over the next three years, he worked as a Reporter for the Globe & Mail and as a Communications Consultant for Hill & Knowlton. In 1985, Walt became an Intelligence Officer with the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS), going through tradecraft training at the CSIS Academy, then located on CFB Borden. At CSIS, he had a varied career, splitting time equally between counter-terrorism, counter-intelligence and foreign intelligence operations. Walt’s final role was Chief of District Operations, responsible for operations in SW Ontario and at Pearson International Airport. He retired in 2010 with a 25-year pension and returned to the private sector. In early 2011, Walt became the Director of Global Security Governance for Barrick, the world’s largest gold mining company. The role included managing internal investigations and business intelligence collection. In 2015, Walt started his own security & intelligence consulting business, with Barrick as his anchor client. That year, he wrote and optioned a movie script inspired by a CSIS case that had become public. The movie was not produced but it allowed him to develop contacts in the entertainment sector, leading to future roles as a consultant. In 2018, Walt became Vice-President Intelligence & Crisis Management for Deloitte Forensic, leading a team of young business intelligence professionals. During that period, he also acted as the Intelligence Tradecraft Consultant for s.1 “Fortunate Son,” a late 1960s espionage drama co-produced by NBC Universal and the CBC, and as a Consultant on s.2 of “Pure” (Super Channel/WGN), a series based on the true-life story of Mexican Drug Cartels using Mennonites to smuggle illegal drugs. Walt left Deloitte in spring 2020 so that he could focus full time on the entertainment sector. He is currently developing a TV series as well as acting as an advisor on other projects. Walt has two daughters who are in their mid-20s and now off the payroll ☺. One is a Lawyer and the other is a Production Coordinator in the Creative Department of an international advertising agency.
