About CHARLES EDMUND THOMPSON
East Wenatchee
Charles Edmund Thompson, 38, a local physician, died Monday, Nov. 30, 1998, when a metal pole he was using to place outdoor Christmas lights up in a tree touched a high voltage power line. Each Christmas Charles decorated his home with elaborate Christmas decorations. He was almost done with the lighting when the accident occurred. Dr. Thompson was born March 24, 1960, in Fort Campbell, KY. He attended high school in Papillion, NE, where he played football and graduated in 1978. From 1979-81 he served a mission in Bogata, Columbia, for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. On August 19, 1983, Charles married Rebecca Lynn Prengel of Olympia. They made their home in Provo, UT, where both graduated from Brigham Young University, Charles in 1984 with a B.S. degree in chemistry. He continued studies in biochemistry before attending medical school at the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences in Des Moines, IA. Dr. Thompson graduated from medical school in 1989 as a Doctor of Osteopathy and did his family practice residency in Cheyenne, WY. He was medical board certified in Wyoming and Washington and was a member of the American Osteopathic Association and the American Association of Family Physicians. Charles was also a captain in the National Guard for over seven years, receiving the Meritorious Service Medal among other awards. Charles and his family moved to Wenatchee in 1992 where he worked as a physician for six years at Columbia Valley Community Health. For the past three months he was a physician at Central Washington Family Physicians. Because he spoke fluent Spanish, Dr. Thompson had many Hispanic patients. Since August of 1997 Dr. Thompson was Bishop of the East Wenatchee Second Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He also coached basketball for the Eastmont Girls Youth Basketball League. Consequently, Chuck, as he was called by all who knew him, was widely known and loved in the community. The consummate family man, Chuck was one of those rare individuals who made many friends easily because he cared about people. It is an understatement to say Chuck Thompson will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Lynn Thompson, four children, Anita Kaye, 14, Sara Michele, 11, Rachel Lynn, 8, and Emily Celeste, two months, also his mother and father, Anita Lorene and Eldon Edmond Thompson of Omaha, NE, a brother, Jason Thompson, currently in the Marines, two sisters, Patty Derby of Morganfield, KY and Dolly Abrams of Papillion, NE, two grandmothers, Myrrthe Roberts of Vernal, UT, and Elizabeth Wilson of Morganfield, KY, a great-grandmother, Gladys Dunaway also of Morganfield, plus many aunts, uncles, and other relations.
