About | Sandra K. "Sandi" Garnette, 53, of Grand Island died unexpectedly Saturday, Oct. 9, 2010, at St. Francis Medical Center. Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Curran Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Randy R. Fett will officiate. Burial will be in the Cozad Cemetery with a 1:30 p.m. committal service. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Ms. Garnette was born March 27, 1957, at Norwalk, Calif., to Paul and Janet (Hart) Neben Garnette. Survivors of the immediate family include her stepmother, Georgia Garnette of Grand Island; a brother and sister-in-law, James and Kim Garnette of Wilmington, N.C.; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Leigh and Bernie Holtorf of Central City, Terri and Tim Zeleski and Lorri and Jim Rogers, all of Grand Island. Others left to cherish her memory include 16 nieces and nephews whom she loved as if they were her own, and 23 great nieces and nephews. Sandi grew up in Papillion and graduated from Papillion High School in 1975. She continued her education at University of Nebraska, Kearney graduating in 1979. She taught country school in Elsworth and later went on to be a preschool teacher. She taught hundreds of kids in Lexington and Grand Island, Austin, Minn., and Kansas City, Mo. Sandi always said she had hundreds of children, all with different fathers. Additionally she taught at the high school, adult and college levels, serving as a Treatment Team member in Kansas City, and at Mid Plains Shelter in Grand Island. She spent 30 years of her life in the Human Services field. She had a love and compassion for people. Sandi had a bubbly personality and often entertained with her jokes and story's. She was blessed with many God given talents, singing, writing poetry, theater, music, and a genuine love for her friends and family. She was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church, TOPS and Girl Scouts leader. She was preceded in death by her father, Paul, mother and stepfather, Jan and Lester Neben, grandparents, Jim and Nellie Hart, Fines and Lola Adams. Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
