Events | Glenda Marie Odell (66) May 10, 1948 – July 9, 2024 Glenda Odell, age 76, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2024, surrounded by family. She was a 1966 graduate of Papillion-LaVista High School and a longtime resident of Papillion. She has left behind a legacy of warmth and kindness. Her gentle strength touched the lives of everyone she encountered. She loved her family, all of God's creatures (except spiders), and her garden. She met her loving husband, Merrit, on a double date arranged by her girlfriend. It was a great arrangement, and they were married for 56 years. They had 3 children, Brian, Chris, and Mandy. The kids always remember her convincing their Dad to take them out to Maria's for dinner as a special Friday night treat. When her children became older, she heard stories about children in Europe available for adoption and she decided this was her calling. She flew to Romania accompanied by her daughter, to adopt a little girl that they named Mariana. Her family continued to grow as she became a grandmother of 5 grandchildren that she adored spending time with and developing strong bonds. She could read stories to them for countless hours while they cuddled on her lap. In her professional life, she worked for US West telephone company. She held various positions there over the years. At one time, she created the artwork for the yellow pages in the phone book. In later years, she was an Administrative Assistant. Glenda's love of animals had her adopting most of her dogs and/or cats from rescue shelters. She also adopted strays that came all along. She had many unique pets over the years. It wasn't unusual to see her have a gerbil, hamster, mice, ducks and even a rat for a pet. Thank goodness, her husband loves animals as much as she did, or it could have been an issue. Her passion for gardening was known by all who knew her well. Her front and backyard are a work of art. Plants of all varieties everywhere. Laid out like an architect/artist with all her meticulous planning. She knew the names of all the flowers. Some of the cobblestones she used for borders were acquired from the City of Omaha. The cobblestones came from a street in an old area of downtown Omaha that was being redone. She had to finagle to get the number of stones she wanted for her project. She liked that they had history. She was always starting new baby plants from her collection and passing them to friends and family. Her legacy lives on in countless gardens of those who loved her. Glenda was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Mandy Trout; parents, Carl & Doris Kvam; and brother-in-law, Joseph Brown. She leaves behind her husband, Merrit; sons Brian and Chris (Megan); daughter Mariana; son-in-law, Eric Trout; grandchildren Parker, Sydney, and Alex Trout; Finn and Rylee Odell; sisters Kay Brown and Julie McClain; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. VISITATION Thursday, July 18, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Kahler-Dolce Mortuary, followed by a FUNERAL at 11:00 AM. BURIAL at Cedar Dale Cemetery. |
