"Bea" VosslerBeatrice Meryl "Bea" Vossler, of Friend, died Saturday, November 13, 2004, at the Friend Manor in Friend at the age of 96 years 1 month and 7 days. She was born on October 6, 1908 northwest of Springfield, Nebraska in Sarpy County to Albert Adolph and Cora Belle (Schobert) Stoft, the youngest of three children. She was baptized August 3, 1909 in the Springfield Methodist Church. When she was a baby, the family moved to a farm they purchased northeast of Springfield. Bea was confirmed and joined the St. Paul Methodist Church in Papillion on June 5, 1921. She attended Sarpy Center Rural School and graduated from Papillion High School in 1926. She taught country school for two years in Sarpy county and substituted in the Omaha Public Schools for four years while attending Peru State Teachers College. Bea became a member of the Pi Gamma Mu National Social Science Honor Society in 1930. In the spring of 1934, she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education, graduating with Senior high honors. After receiving her degree she taught one year in the Hastings School system. On October 26, 1935, Bea was united in marriage to Frank Vossler at Papillion and to this union three children were born, Charles, John and Marilyn. After their marriage, they farmed and made their home in the Friend area, moving into Friend in 1968. Bea has been a very active member of the community. She became a member of the Friend United Methodist Church in 1935. Bea served her church as a Sunday School Teacher and member of the choir for many years. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and served as President, Treasurer, and in several other leadership positions. She enjoyed quilting and spent many afternoons at the church quilting to raise funds for the United Methodist Women and the Church. Bea was also a member of the Friend Rebekah Lodge #58, serving as Noble Grand and Secretary. She also belonged to the neighborhood club known as Friendship Sewing Circle. In her spare time, Bea enjoyed crocheting and made many afghans, tablecloths, and bed dolls for family and friends. She enjoyed gardening and playing the piano. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Arline Vossler, John and Jacqueline Vossler, all of Friend, daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Michael Anderson of Exeter, 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter, and a host of other relatives and friends. Bea is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Frank in 1987, granddaughter-in-law, Joyce Vossler, an infant brother, a sister, Grace Bell, a brother-in-law, Albert M. Bell, and a nephew, Albert E. Bell. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 16, 2004, at the Friend United Methodist Church with Rev. Tess Hufford officiating. Interment will be in Andrew Cemetery, Friend. Visitation is from 2-9 pm Sunday, and 9-9 Monday at Lauber-Moore Funeral Home, Friend and one hour before services Tuesday at the Church. Memorials have been established to the Friend United Methodist Church or to the family |
