BETHANY FUNERAL HOME 82nd & Harrison 402-593-6100 -------------------------------------- From the Omaha World Herald Newspaper: The mother of a La Vista teenager killed in a one-vehicle crash said she was just starting to understand how popular her son was with other young people. A short time after Sunday's early-morning crash, Jon L. Zadina's family began hearing from his friends. Several friends of the 18-year-old even began collecting money to help the family with expenses. "I had no idea that there were so many people who cared about my son," Carolyn Zadina said. "For these kids to go around raising money ... it's just amazing. We've been overwhelmed." Funeral services for the 2012 Papillion-La Vista High School graduate will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the Wildewood Christian Church at 82nd Street and Giles Road. Zadina died about 12:30 a.m. Sunday when he lost control of a 2003 Ford Mustang while driving east on Cary Street in Papillion and struck a tree. Zadina, who was alone in the Mustang, was pronounced dead at the scene. After graduation, Jon Zadina traveled to Germany with his maternal grandmother and his older brother, Joseph, to visit relatives. Carolyn Zadina said the trip helped bring the boys closer together. "Jonny was family oriented," she said. "He spent a lot of time playing ball or bouncing on the trampoline with (brothers) Frank and Brad, who are a lot younger and really looked up to him." Jon Zadina recently began working at the Nebraska Warehouse Co., driving a forklift, but he had his eye on joining the Army. Carolyn Zadina said her son told her that he thought the military would be a good place to "get away from it all" and start thinking about a career. "Jon would set goals and then stick to them," his mother said. "But he was also a very caring person who had a huge heart." In addition to his mother, he is survived by his father, Joseph Zadina; brothers Joseph Zadina, Jerad Anderson, Frank Krayneski, Brad Krayneski and Michael Zadina; sister Laura Zadina; and grandmother Emma Christiansen. Friends of the family have set up the Jon Zadina Memorial fund at the First Savings Bank at 3540 S. 84th St. in Omaha to help with expenses. |
