PLATTERS WIN "BIG" ONE
SOMETIMES a group of athletes tries so hard to fulfill a mission they don't perform up to par. Not so with North Platte Junior College's trackmen. They set out last weekend to win one for the late Greg Schack, the 6-4, 241-pound shotputter who had died of a cerebral hemorrhage earlier in the week. The Platters won the six-school meet at Kearney for their ex-teammate from Papillion, then presented the trophy to Greg's sister, Sheralyn, in a heart-rending ceremony afterwards. Members of Greg's class at Papillion last year are raising funds for a memorial plaque to be placed in the school. Greg established the Papillion school shot record of 58-4 last season and ranked No. 7 on the all-time Nebraska list.
