Williams was supposed to be married this Friday at New Hope Apostolic Temple in Omaha. Instead, his family is planning his funeral there. The 30-year-old Papillion man died Friday in a traffic collision east of Fremont. He and his two young children were on their way to see Williams’ fiancée and the children’s mother, Abbie Benjamin of Fremont, said Williams’ mother, Delores Williams of Papillion. The children — Harper, 4, and Gabriel, 3 — survived the collision and were fine Saturday, their grandmother said. The crash occurred about 12:50 p.m. Friday on U.S. Highway 275. Williams’ vehicle collided with a car hauler headed in the other direction, according to the Nebraska State Patrol. Williams was a licensed practical nurse at Ambassador Health in Omaha, a fitting profession for someone like Williams who loved helping people, his mother said. “He was an all-around good person,” she said. He enjoyed sports and coaching children at the YMCA, she said. In high school he participated in track, football and basketball, winning a state championship in 2006 in the 100-meter dash for Papillion-La Vista South High School and a second-place finish in the 200-meter race. Williams was born in Kansas City, Kansas, and moved to Papillion from Arvada, Colorado, in 1998. He attended Rumsey Station Elementary School, Papillion Junior High and Papillion-La Vista High School for two years before transferring to Papio South. He studied at the University of Northern Iowa and Iowa Western Community College before earning a nursing degree at Kaplan University, his father, Lenzie Williams Jr., said. Additional survivors include a brother, Lenzie Williams III, and his wife, Natalie, of Papillion; sister, April Williams of Fair Oaks, California; a niece and three nephews. |
