She attended Papillion Grade and High School. After graduation in 1968, Jan attended Capitol Beauty School of Hairstyling in Omaha receiving her cosmetology license. There she met some fun classmates from Iowa, Shelby County, to be precise. She became a visitor at her classmates’ homes and they introduced her to some nice young men of Iowa, and one became a very good friend and lover. On September 5, 1970, Janice was united in marriage to Donald M. Hoffmann at the St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Papillion, Nebraska. They resided southwest of Panama where Don farmed. She opened Jan’s Beauty Salon in Portsmouth, Iowa from 1980 until 1993, then worked at Little Flower Haven in Earling, Iowa until retiring in 2015 from being the head of the housekeeping department. She enjoyed cooking and tending to her flower and vegetable gardens. At family gatherings, Jan was famous for her chocolate caramel brownies and chicken noodle soup. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 601, Panama, Iowa until her death. Jan died on Sunday, August 6, 2017 at the Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, attaining the age of sixty-seven years, nine months and eleven days. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Don Hoffmann and her siblings: Louise Andrews; Elaine Dresp and Eugene Oseka. After Don’s death, it was Jan’s goal to harass her nephew Josh to propose to Carlie, and she succeeded. She is survived by her sister Marcia Oseka Ansley of Texas; brothers-in-law Kenneth Hoffmann and his wife Delores of Omaha, Nebraska; Richard Hoffmann of Appleton, Wisconsin; Allen Hoffmann and his wife Gina of Panama, Iowa; Jerry Hoffmann and his wife Sharon of Panama; Marvin Hoffmann of Webster City, Iowa; sister-in-law Marilyn and her husband Gary Borkowski of Carroll, Iowa; best friend Janie Erlbacher of Earling, Iowa; many nieces and nephews; other family members and friends. = = = = = = from Centennial book: "Panama Pages of Time~Panama, Iowa 1884~1984" page 238 Donald and Janice Hoffmann Donald Melvin Hoffmann, son of Henry F. and Viola (Schumacher) Hoffmann was born in Panama, Iowa on Dec. 3, 1945. He has five brothers and one sister: Kenneth, Richard, Marilyn, Allen, Gerald and Marvin. Don attended St. Mary's Grade and High School. After graduation he was inducted into the Army on October 5, 1965. He served a year in Vietnam from March 1966 to March 1967 as a medic with with the 1st Infantry Division. Don received the Bronze Star for valor at Lai Khe on Nov. 25, 1966. On Sept. 5, 1970, he married Janice Oseka, daughter of Thomas J. and Julia (Sokol) Oseka. Janice was born October 26, 1949, in Omaha NE. She has three sisters and one brother: Louise (deceased), Elaine, Eugene and Marcia. Jan attended Papillion Grade and High School. After graduation she attended Capitol Beauty School and worked in Omaha a year prior to her marriage. She now operates Jan's Beauty Salon in Portsmouth, Iowa. Donald is a member of the Volunteer Fire Department in Panama, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. Donald and Janice are members of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Donald in now engaged in farming. |
