Events Clarence G. H.“Tate” Knapp 93 years of Papillion. Born in rural Sarpy County on January 5, 1918 to Theodore & Anna (Rahn) Knapp. He was a life long Papillion resident, as well as an outstanding young athlete. During his years at Papillion High School he was a 3 year letterman in basketball and a 4 year letterman in baseball. His skills at the plate and on the field as a third baseman and pitcher, made him well known in the Omaha/ Sarpy County area. He also played baseball at the age of 15 for the Papillion Town team as the second baseman. After graduating High School in 1936, he stayed on the family farm until he was drafted into the army in 1942. Knapp was selected to train and serve as a ski trooper with the famous Tenth Mountain Infantry Division. While training in the mountains of Colorado, he stayed active in athletics by playing for the Tenth Mountain Division baseball team. Knapp was transfered to Texas, where he also played baseball for the Camp Swift All-Star team. During WWII, the Tenth Mountain Infantry Division fought in the mountains of Italy. For his efforts and going beyond the call of duty, he recieved the Bronze Star and a combat infantry badge. When he returned from war he got married to Doris Renzelman, and continued to run the family farm. He raised milk cows and grain on his farm, located one mile southwest of Papillion. He continued playing baseball for the Papillion Town Team in the Platte Valley League. Later on, he was also the manager of the team. He has been involved with various community organizations. He has been a member of the American Legion Post #32 for 62 years and is a charter member of the Papillion VFW. He served for almost 25 years on the Cedart Dale Cemetery Board, in which he was a previous president. He has also been part of the Papillion Rural Fire Department Board and Sarpy County Noxious Weed Board. He is also a lifetime member of the First lutheran Church in Papillion.He recieved the Distinguished Graduate Award at an All-Class Alumni banquet in 2006. He Passed away February 19, 2011 in Papillion. He is survived by Wife: Doris. Children & Spouses: Kathy & Dale Haecker, Beatrice, NE. Ted & Jacque Knapp, Woodinville, WA, Carol & Greg Eymann, Castle Rock, CO. Grandchildren: Nicole McGillivray, Nathan Haecker, Matthew Eymann, Jessica Knapp, Cassie Kodama. 8 Great Grandchildren. Extended family Bob & Trish Suponchick and family. Nieces, Nephews other relatives and friends Services: Wednesday 10:00 am First Lutheran Church, Papillion. Interment Cedar Dale Cemetery. Visitation at Mortuary Tuesday 1-8 pm with family receiving friends from 6-8. Memorials to Church building fund
