About Me Life Well, we have finally settled in Eugene Oregon. It is a great place, but don't move here. Seems like everytime I find a really great place, people start to move there and make it into a not so great place. Anyway, we were living down in Tucson but decided it was too much out on the spur line to get to different places so we came up here. It was nice in Green Valley but not what we wanted. The resort communities are not all they are mocked up to be. Too much drinking and partying for my tastes, since we don't drink, didn't leave us much to do except play golf and you can only do so much of that. I was in the Navy for almost nine years. Wanted to get into the Polaris program but by the time I was ready they were full so had to stay with the Terrier Missile. I was a Fire Controlman, which means I took care of the radars that guided the missiles and guns to the target. It was a great experience, I got to see both sides, Pacific and Atlantic. I was on the USS Constellation (carrier), USS Leahy DLG 19, MacDonough DLG 8, Rowan DD 782 and shore duty at the USNSMSES at Port Hueneme California (a place where we updated the missile ships of the fleet). I got to go over the equator (got my butt beat on that one), over the date line, got to see a lot of Europe and North Africa, West Pacific, Japan, Hong Kong Taiwan and my not so favorite two tours in Viet Nam. I was at the Tonkin Gulf incident and got the begessus scared out of me. It was a great experience and I almost got to have four years of college at Purdue paid for but I screwed up and lost it. Hence the need for the later chapter of my life. I did my two years of night school for the first two years of my college requirements at Ventura night school while I was at my shore duty. My schools have been a long list. I got my MBA from Golden Gate University at night. I got my Bachelors from Cal Poly at Pomona California in Computer Science (called it Quantitative Business Analysis back then) and worked in all sorts of places. From Warner Bros, Union Bank, Sears, Intuit, Home Depot, Joy Mfg, and the City of Tucson, just to mention a few. Also had my own company for about five years with a partner that won't speak to me now . It was a great experience but one that needs to be polished up a little, sort of tarnished now, but probably won't get the chance this life time. During all that I became involved with Scientology in order to save myself and my marriage from ruin. It worked. That was the smartest thing I have done with my life, for without it I would probably be dead by now from the stupid things I was doing. I am what is known as an OT7 and have trained up to being a Class 6 auditor and a flag trained Executive Director. To most that wont' make any sense but to others reading this it will mean that I have really pulled my butt out of the mud. I have two sons, Chris and Jason. My wife has two children, Terra and John. We have six grandchildren, Jake, Troy, Ashli, Jena, Tyler, Cooper and now Joshua. They are great, of course. I have retired, finally and it is all that it is cracked up to be and more. Had I known that it would be this great, I would have worked harder and started this earlier. This is really what it is all about. Being able to do the things you want to do (but more importantly, having the time to do them right). One piece of advice I would give to every kid is to invest in everything you can get your hands or bucks on and get as much from your employers into the pot and then study and learn what the stock market can do for you and use it to make retirement a realistic goal. My words of wisdom for my kids or anyone else is 'Go straight as long as you can". I once tried to go around the block off of Sunset Ave in LA and it took me over an hour and I never made it. I learned that if you want to do something, just do it, take the fastest and most obvi...(read more)
