Served in USMC 1960-1964 MCRD San Diego, Camp Pendleton, Marine Barracks NAS Moffett Field, Camp Hansen Okinawa, Coronado Ca. Was in the 9th Marines (The Walking dead). Thanks to my dad, who wanted me out of the house, I missed serving in Vietnam by 5 months. Otherwise, I'm sure I would not be sitting here typing this.

Navy, 20+ Years
After graduation, active duty in the U.S. Navy Submarine Service as enlisted man. Served in USS Benjamin Franklin SSBN 640 (B) and USS Rock AGSS 274. Later back to school, first at Foothill, and then to Stanford. Navy commission in 1977 through OCS in Newport RI and 4 1/2 additional years of active duty in submarines. Served in USS Lafayette SSBN 616 (B) and USS Bonefish SS 582. Active and reserve service took me to the Western Pacific, Japan, Korea, Hawaii, San Diego, Connecticut, Scotland, the Arctic, Norfolk and Washington DC. Retired after 27 years as captain from Navy Reserve in 2003.

Enlisted in the 2X6 Naval Reserve Program at Palo Alto Post Office and activated right after completing high school. Served as a Signalman in the Pacific on USS Coral Sea (CV-43) including combat duty at "Yankee Station" during the Viet Nam War.

Activated right after graduation from Paly, Bob was assigned to the USS Pomfret SS-391 and was deployed to the Western Pacific during the VietNam War including operations in the Gulf of Tonkin. His rate was Engineman, and he was a qualified throttleman bother surfaced and submerged.
