| About Me | Born Stephen Ross Newport in Camden, NJ. Also worked in the theatre as director and actor under the name Ross Roberts, and as set designer under the name Henry Diller. Son of Betty and Fred Newport. Grandson of Pauline Diller and Bill Roberts, and of Ceil Henry and Isaac Newport. Stepgrandfather: Emanuel Albert. Stepfather: Jim Hearn. Mother's Brother: Don Roberts. (All deceased.) Stepmother: Donna Newport. Father's Brother: Bill Newport. Half brothers: Bill Hearn and Howard Newport. Half sisters: Donna Bernard, Paula Hearn, Christina Newport, and Karen Fortuna. Grew up in the Amber Terrace section of Pine Hill, NJ on the borders of Lindenwold and Clementon. Lived in Montclair, NJ (12 miles west of NYC) from 1974-1976, out of a suitcase from 1976-1986, in NYC from 1986-1989, and Montclair again from 1989-2001. During the 90's organized and hosted the Bigbee Awards (honoring the late actor Lawrence "Lee" Bigbee) for Northern New Jersey theatre. Moved to Florida in June, 2001. (Coconut Creek - north of Ft Lauderdale, south of Boca Raton - calls itself "Butterfly Capitol of the World" and is rated by Money Magazine as one of the "Top 100 Places to Live".) Studied at Stella Adler Studios with Tony winners Phyllis Newman and Joanna Gleason. Have worked with Tony winners Alfred Drake, Nathan Lane, Marc Shaiman, Jason Robert Brown, Jack Feldman, and Douglas Besterman as well as Tony nominees Anne Heche, Eddie Mekka, John Dossett, Joseph Robinette, Scott Hart, and Roy Miller. Also worked with cabaret diva Spider Saloff, Broadway producers Roy Miller and Scott Hart, off-Broadway producer Sal Piro, as well as TV celebs Barry Williams (The Brady Bunch), Robert Hegyes (Welcome Back, Kotter), Christopher Hewett (Mr. Belvedere), Lane Davies (Dear John), and William Forsythe (Boardwalk Empire.) Won NY Daily News Drama Critic's award (for NJ Theatre) as John Adams in 1776, following Best Actor in A Musical nomination for Chuck Baxter in PROMISES, PROMISES.
