About Funeral services for Mr. Shelton Jermaine Sistrunk, 27, of 158 Shelton Road, will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 13, 2006, at Orangeburg Wilkinson HIgh School, Orangeburg with the Rev. Kay Adams Best officiating. Burial will be in St. Stephen United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The casket will be placed in the church at noon.

Shelton Jermaine Sistrunk was born August 22, 1978, in Orangeburg. He was the son of Mr. Shelton and Rachel W. Sistrunk. His earthly life came to a close on June 9, 2006.

At the age of twelve, Jermaine, as he was affectionately called, became a member of St. Stephen United Methodist Church in Orangeburg. There he served as a member of the Sunbeam Choir, the church school and the St. Stephen United Methodist Church Male Chorus.

In 1996, Jermaine graduated from Orangeburg/Wilkinson High School and in 2000, he received his bachelor of science degree from South Carolina State University. Throughout his school years, he developed a passion for football. This passion led to his becoming a member of the Pee Wee Squad in the city of Orangeburg and later a member of the Orangeburg/Wilkinson High School and South Carolina State University football team.

After graduation, Jermaine devoted his life to working with the youth in the community, church and school while working towards a master’s degree. He was employed with the Orangeburg County School District as a Teen Companion Youth Counselor at Clark Middle School. Because of his love of football, he became an assistant coach on the staff of both Coach Tommy Brown and Coach Tony Felder. Jermaine also served two years as the coach of the Junior Varsity of the Orangeburg/Wilkinson High School Bruins. HIs legacy will live on through the many lives of those he touched.

He was very passionate about things and was a devoted member of various organizations during his brief life. He was a member of the Zhi-Phi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. and a member of Masonic Lodge Center Hill No. 190 of Orangeburg.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Lula Bell Gaines White, paternal grandparents, Mr. Shelton and Mrs. Elvira H. Sistrunk, one aunt, Mrs. Estell Smalls.

Shelton Jermaine Sistrunk leaves to cherish his loving memory, parents Mr. and Mrs. Shelton (Rachel) Sistrunk, of Orangeburg; one brother, Mr. Jervey Kattrell (Yulanda Shun) Sistrunk, of Plainfield, N.J.; maternal grandfather, Mr. James White Sr., of Holly Hill; two nieces, J’Maya Cattrell Sistrunk and Joi Viola Sistrunk; one nephew, Jervey Kattrell Sistrunk; fiance, Ms. Stephanie Simpson; five godchildren, Kennedy, Bryce, Drake and Amaris Dupont, Laila Nimmons; five aunts, Mrs. Betty (Henry) Garner, Mrs. Vernell (Johnny) Wright, Mrs. Ruth (MC) Williams, of Vance, Ms. Elvira H. Sistrunk, of Tampa, Fla., and Ms. Marilyn Sistrunk, of Orangeburg; two uncles, Mr. James (Annette) White, of Columbia and Nehemia Smalls, of Vance; two godsisters, Dr. Shyrl Sistrunk, of Washington, D.C. and Mrs. Yolanda S. Dupont, of Charlotte, N.C.; six grandaunts, Mrs. Dell Amedee, of the Bronx, N.Y., Mrs. Evelyn Eggleston, of Orangeburg, Mrs. Mildred (James) Joyner, of Columbia, Mrs. Bertha Shuler, of Santee, Mrs. Teresa Davis, Mrs. Carrie L. Bryant, of Holly Hill and two very special aunts who helped to raise him, Mrs. Odell Gladney and Mrs. Marlene Rickenbacker, of Orangeburg; three granduncles, Mr. George White and Mr. Wilson Keitt, of Holly Hill and Mr. Calvin White, of Santee and a host of loving cousins, other relatives and friends.
