CARE 2016
Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Christina Kendler and I am the current Chairman for CARE. We are a grassroots organization that was formed in 2014, by members of the community that were concerned about the aging and unsafe infrastructure of our schools. You are more then likely aware of Measure K. It was the bond on the 2014 ballot that would have provided each of the four OUSD high schools money that they so desperately need to update and renovate their buildings. By California law, we needed 55% (super majority) to pass, and we unfortunately fell just 191 votes short. As disappointing as that was, we know that we cannot give up. We have a fantastic team that is growing daily. There are so many people passionate about this cause, and we are fighting harder then ever to see a bond on the 2016 ballot and get it passed.
I am reaching out to you in hopes that you would be willing to work with us to educate the community on this very important issue. This will affect everyone, whether they have kids currently in the system or not. Among other things, it raises property values and promotes pride in our community. It also shows kids that we care about their futures, and that if you want something done, you need to step up and make it happen.
It was appalling the low amount of voters we had turn up in 2014. Sadder yet, is the low amount of young voters that used their right to speak up. CARE will be spreading awareness for how important it is to use your voice. We have a voter registration manager who will be holding workshops and offering voter sign-ups at numerous times and locations throughout the next 18 months.
Together, with our neighbors and leaders involved, I am confident that we can be successful. I encourage you to look at our website for further information. careforousd.org
Please feel free to contact me if you have any additional questions or would like to get involved. We hope that as Panthers, you see the importance of supporting Orange High and CARE in moving forward.
Thank You,
Christina
