About 1944-2020
Gerald Martin (Marty) Hansen Jr. passed peacefully at home with his children by his side Dec. 14, 2020. Marty was born to Gerald and Louise Hansen May 6, 1944 in Oakland, Calif. When he was a toddler, his family moved to the Cameron Lake area near Omak and later to Okanogan then Omak. Marty graduated from Omak High School with the class of 1962, he always considered Omak his home, and felt a strong connection to the area. Marty returned regularly throughout his life and loved to tell stories about his many shenanigans of his youth.
Marty received a degree from the University of Washington in Construction Management and oversaw the construction of many buildings throughout the Seattle area. He married Nancy Colacarro and they had two children. He remained in the Seattle area for most of his life, but he returned to Omak often, always on Memorial Day, for the Stampede, and to tend to the family cemetery near Cameron Lake. He enjoyed sailing, dancing, golfing, football, camping, playing cribbage, and he self-identified as a cowboy, always known for wearing his favorite boots, western wear, and a cowboy hat. He had a wonderfully quick wit and many friends. He was always available to lend a hand to anyone that needed help.
Marty is survived by his daughter, Angela Calhoun; son, Jeffrey Hansen; grandsons, Austin, Jordan, and Cameron Calhoun; and sister, Jan Hansen. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Louise Hansen and his sister, Gail Bryan.
Events There will be a celebration of Marty’s life at 1 p.m., Saturday, May 29, 2021 at the Triangle Shelter in Omak Eastside Park near the Stampede arena. The family encouraged anyone that knew Marty to come and honor his memory by sharing stories with the family during a casual gathering.
