About Edna Meyers

Edna Meyers, 77, a long-time resident of Bremerton, passed from this world at St. Michael's Medical Center in Silverdale, Washington, on January 20, 2021. Edna was reunited in spirit with her loving and devoted husband of 53 years, Roy, who passed 4 years ago in April of 2016.

Edna was born and raised in Omak, WA, graduating from Omak High School as Salutatorian in 1962. She married Roy a week later, and they spent their honeymoon at the Seattle World's Fair. After moving several times over the next couple of years, they settled in Bremerton. Edna joined Roy in the teaching world, first as an aid, then as a disability-focused teacher. She taught at many of the schools in the Bremerton School District and completed her Master's Degree in Education in 1985. After over 20 years of public school service, she retired from Armin Jahr in 2002. During their 50-plus years in the Bremerton/Silverdale area, she and Roy worked together in the public schools, in Scouts, and in Kiwanis. She was also active in the Alpha Delta Kappa (ADK) professional and service sorority of woman educators. Together Edna and Roy gave thousands of hours in service of others, helping to make the area a better place for all.

Besides Roy, Edna was preceded in death by her father, Howard James Byrd (1991), and Mother, Ina Faye Keck Byrd (2004). She is survived by her brother Ray Byrd of Centralia, sister Carole (Walt) Kursave of Wenatchee, sister Sophia (Patrick) McSherry of Tacoma, her son Tommey (Joanna) Meyers of South Kingstown, RI, and her grandchildren James (Nicole) Meyers of Crofton, MD, and Sydney Meyers of Cambridge, MA. Edna also leaves behind a multitude of friends and relatives who will greatly miss her, her kindness, her dedication to community, and her steadfast love and devotion to family.

A Memorial Service is being planned for an unspecified date (pending widespread COVID vaccination) later this summer. In lieu of gifts or flowers, charitable donations are requested for the Silverdale Kiwanis.
